Burnet Saxifrage, Pimpinella Saxifraga
The Saxifraga femur is common in the European part, Siberia, Kazakhstan, in the Caucasus. Grows in dry meadows, glades, pastures, edges of fields, along roads, on embankments, wastelands, forest edges and in light forests.
It is a perennial herbaceous plant of the celery family. up to 50 cm high. Rhizome is many-headed, branched and brown-coloured. The root is wrinkled and tuberous.
Stem hollow inside, outside covered with fluff, has filiform grooves. The lower leaves are simple, and pinnate, while individual leaflets are ovate and serrate. Upper leaves are often three-lobed, and underdeveloped. Blooms from June to October. The flowers are white, and collected in an umbrella. The fruit is ovoid two seeded.
Medicinal raw materials are rhizomes with roots. They are harvested in September – October or early spring, cleaned of earth, washed with cold water and dried in the shade or in a dryer at temperatures not higher than 45 °C.
After drying, the raw material has a pungent odor and bitter taste. Store it in a tightly closed container, protected from dampness, for 2 years.
The thigh contains saponins, resins, tannins substances, essential oil, acids and bitter substance. Plant preparations have anti-inflammatory, diuretic, expectorant, and sedative properties.
They are used orally for inflammatory diseases. respiratory tract, bronchial asthma, gastritis, constipation, accumulation of gases and indigestion, kidney disease and urinary tract, urolithiasis, congestive edema character, as well as a means of calming the nervous system. Externally used for rinsing with diseases of the pharynx.
