The roots of the plant contain starch and other carbohydrates, triterpene saponins, tannins, phenolic carboxylic acids, catechins, flavonoids, vitamin C and carotene, carbohydrates, glucose, fructose, raffinose, saponins, alkaloids, vitamins C and K, carotene, tannins, flavonoids, anthocyanins and leucoanthocyanins were found in the aboveground part.

Geranium preparations have astringent, disinfecting, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antitoxic, wound healing, hemostatic, soothing, and analgesic properties, as well as the ability to dissolve salt deposits in kidney stones, rheumatism and gout.

It is used internally in the treatment of malignant neoplasms, bone fractures, epilepsy, upper respiratory tract diseases, fever, gastritis, enteritis, food poisoning, dysentery, copious and prolonged menstruation and hemorrhoidal bleeding, urolithiasis, rheumatism, gout, heart disease, externally in the treatment of purulent wounds, ulcers, abscesses, rheumatic pains in joints, anal and genital fistulas, sore throat, inflammation of the mucous membrane of the mouth and throat, with whites, hair loss.
