Distributed in the European part. Western Siberia, Kazakhstan. More often found in sparse dry forests, forest edges, clearings and river floodplains. It can be cultivated in parks and squares. Propagated by seeds and undergrowth.

 

 

It is a shrub or small tree of the Rosaceae family. up to 5 m high. Shoots are purple-brown, shiny, and covered with hard spines. Leaves alternate, petiolate, obovate, pointed, lobes serrate, on both sides short-haired. Blooms in May – June.

 

 

Flowers are small, and white, with 5 petals in dense thyroid inflorescences, with a weak specific smell. The fruit is apple-shaped, up to 1 cm in diameter, blood red, rarely brownish, sweet and sour, with mealy pulp. Ripens at the end of August.

 

 

Medicinal raw materials are flowers, fruits and leaves. Hawthorn blooms in 3-4 days. Flowers are harvested at the beginning bloom until they are all open. should not be collected after dew and rain, as they will darken when dried.

 

 

Dry no later than 1-2 hours after collection in the attic, under a canopy or in a room with good ventilation, spreading a thin layer. Dryers rooms should be closed at night, as the raw material is hygroscopic. Store it in closed boxes or glass containers for 1 year.

 

Fruit is harvested when fully ripe, dried in an oven, in the sun or in the dryer at a temperature of 40-50 ‘C. The finished raw material is screened, separating the stalks, defective berries and other impurities. Store in glass containers or tight bags for 2 years.

 

Hawthorn fruits contain sugars, organic and triterpene acids, tannins, phytosterols, saponins, glycosides and carotene. The flowers contained coffee and chlorogenic acid, hyperoside, quercetin, essential oil, acetylcholine, choline and triethylamine.
