Verbana Officinalis, Common Verbana, Common Vervain, Simpler’s Joy
It is widespread everywhere. It grows in clearings, on roadsides and in fields by crops.
It is a perennial plant of the verbena family with a height of up to 80 cm. The stem is tetrahedral and erect. The leaves are oblong, and located on short petioles.
The flowers are pale purple, divided into 5 petals, numerous, collected in a panicle. Vibrant Blooming starts in May – October. Medicinal raw materials are the entire above-the-ground part of the plant with flowers.
The grass is harvested during the flowering period. Dried in a dryer at a temperature of 50-60 ° C.
The raw materials contain verbelin glycoside, carotene, tannins and bitterness. Common Verbena preparations have diaphoretic, antipyretic, anti-inflammatory and soothing properties.
It is prescribed orally for acute bronchitis, tracheitis, rheumatism, toothache and headache, pneumonia, and hypotension. Externally it is used for difficult-to-heal wounds, inflammation of the skin, oral mucosa, rashes, boils, and it also removes bad breath.
