Polygonum Aviculare, Common Knotgrass, Prostrate Knotweed, Bird Weed, Pig Weed and Low Grass
It is widespread everywhere as a weed. Grows near housing, roads, pastures, pastures, stadiums, is not afraid of trampling.
It is an annual plant of the buckwheat family with a recumbent or slightly rising branched stem up to 60 cm long. The root is vertical and sparsely branched. The leaves are elliptical or linear-lanceolate, grayish or blue-green in color, up to 2 cm long. Blooms from June to September.
The flowers are pink or white, small, five-membered, and sit 1- 5 in the axils of the leaves. The fruit is a dark brown nut. Medicinal raw materials are the entire aboveground part of the plant.
The grass is harvested in dry weather during the flowering period almost all summer, cutting to a length of 40 cm. It is not recommended to harvest the plant in heavily polluted areas and grazing areas.
The grass is separated from the impurities and placed in bags. Dry in a ventilated room, in an attic with good ventilation, outdoors in the shade or in a dryer at a temperature of 50-60 ° C, turning 2-3 times. Raw materials are considered dry when the stems become brittle. Stored in cloth or paper bags for 3 years.
The herb of the mountain bird contains the flavonoid avicularin, ascorbic acid, vitamins K and E, carotene, silicic acid and many of its soluble compounds, resins, bitterness, mucus, tannins and traces of essential oil.
The preparations of the plant have astringent, hemostatic, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, anti-putrefactive and diuretic properties, reduce bleeding of the mucous membranes, moderately reduce blood pressure, accelerate wound healing, increase immunity, increase the excretion of sodium and chlorine from the body, reduce the crystallization of mineral salts in the urinary tract.
It is used orally for chronic diseases of the urinary tract, especially with concomitant violation of mineral metabolism, with inflammation of the gastric mucosa and intestinal ulcer, gastric ulcer and duodenal ulcer, in the initial period of urolithiasis, as well as after removal of stones and liver diseases.
In the complex treatment of tuberculosis, malaria, uterine and hemorrhoidal bleeding, externally with various skin diseases, as well as for the treatment of wounds, ulcers and bruises. Due to the high content of silicic acid, the plant is not recommended for acute kidney and bladder diseases.
