It is widespread in the European part. Western Siberia. It grows in damp places in the fields. This is a large biennial plant of the celery family with a height of up to 2 m. The rhizome is short, and thick, with numerous roots and a fragrant smell.

The stem is erect, branched, hollow inside, with a bluish bloom. The leaves are large, alternate, glabrous, double- and triple-pinnate, with cylindrical petioles and swollen membranous sheaths. Blooms in the second year of life in June – August.

The flowers are white, small, and collected in a spherical umbrella. The fruit is a two-seeded straw-yellow color. Medicinal raw materials are rhizomes with roots that have a pleasant refreshing smell.

In the first year of the plant, they are harvested in autumn, and then in the second year – in early spring. They are dug out with shovels, shaken off the ground, washed in cold water and cut across. Dried under a canopy, in an attic or in a dryer at a temperature of 35-40“ S, laying out a thin layer.

Stored in a well-closed wooden container for 3 years. The rhizome and roots contain essential oil, furocoumarins, organic acids, phytosterols, tannins and resins. Angelica preparations have anti-inflammatory, diuretic, diaphoretic and wound-healing properties.

They help to relax the smooth muscles of the internal organs and enhance the secretion of gastric and bronchial glands, have a bactericidal effect, and inhibit fermentation processes in the intestine.

Angelica has a tonic effect on the cardiovascular and central nervous systems, increasing bile and pancreatic juice secretion. It is used internally for pancreatitis, and spasms of smooth muscles of internal organs. It also decreases the secretion of bile and fermentation in the intestine.

The tincture is used for rubbing with gout, rheumatism, and lower back pain.
